While on vacation my wife and I stayed two nights in Vinton Louisiana. After checking out of the hotel Saturday morning, my vehicle would not start there was no power. I called AAA and was referred to Baker Auto in Beaumont Tx and the vehicle was towed there but upon arriving found out the shop is closed on weekends. The vehicle was left in front of the shop and the keys left in the Key drop slot. We called our Granddaughter in Houston and she came and drove us back home to Houston. On Monday morning, I called and informed them about the vehicle being there, The first thing I was told is they could not do anything without me going and signing paperwork and that the analysis would cost $98.00. I had to send an email authorizing it. I later got a call and was told the battery was dead and would not take a charge. It had to be replaced before they could proceed and would cost $446.51. I didn't have much of a choice and okayed it but thought this was kind of high. I later received a call that the car was ready and it was the battery that was bad. Our Granddaughter drove back to Beaumont to picked up the vehicle. I paid for the and the invoice showed:. $255.68 Battery (I checked and it was a DieHard H6R. I searched the internet and it is $199.98 just about any parts store. I asked about the old battery and they wanted an additional $35.00 for it. $3.00 Battery Fee $98.00 check battery charging system, check battery starting, $52.50 Clean battery terminals, replace battery $15.00 Supplies ( don"t know what this is) 25.33 Tax ---------- $446.51 Total It might just be me, but I think $165.00 to replace a battery it excessive. I am reminded of the time i had to paid Christian Brothers repair shop over $1, 000.00 dollars to find a short on my expedition which turned out to be a $19.00 dollar cable running from a bad generator to the battery. Then they wanted an addition $800.00 to replace the generator but that's another story.
